The Record Player
Copyright -- Hipauld
Welcome to the world of music on the ST. This share-ware program will let you
create record albums from Music Studio files. These albums can be played on a
midi synthesizer or through the monitor speaker. The program only runs in
medium resolution.
Music Studio is a good program as shown by the number of Music Studio songs in
the public domain. The program is great for writing songs and learning midi and
music on the ST. It has one weak spot. It is unable to play a series of songs
as background music or entertainment without constantly reloading new files.
This program permits you to arrange a series of up to 16 songs as an album and
play them sequentially.
Just click on the program "PLAYER.PRG" to play. You will have to create an
album. This is done by clicking on the "CREATE" box and arrange Music Studio
song files in the order you want. When you want to quit, just hit "CANCEL" on
the file selector box. You will be given an opportunity to save the album. You
can use any valid name with the extender ".ALB". To play the album, click on
the "PLAY" box. To load an existing album, click on the "LOAD" box. the "QUIT"
box returns to the desktop.
Several operations can be done while the program is running. These are
controlled by using control characters. Hold down the control key [^] and hit
the appropriate letter. The following controls are used:
^C Quit, return to main menu (for Unix users)
^M Toggle midi output on/off
^N Skip to next song in the album
^Q Quit, return to main menu
^S Toggle monitor sound on/off
Bugs:
There are two known bugs. This program will not change instrument, either in
midi or on the monitor speaker. I have not been able to figure out the Music
Studio logic for selecting instruments. Any help would be appreciated. If you
find any bugs, please leave a message on GENIE and include the name of the song
file. If it is not on GENIE, I would appreciate a copy.
Good listening!
